Tunnels and Bridges

31 Jul

I cannot tell you how many tunnels we have driven through this past month.   Miles and miles.  It seems like Japanese engineers would rather cut a hole through a mountain than build a road up and over it.  Some are as long as two miles.

The bridges are amazing.  So many of them spanning from Honshu to the little island of Awaji and to Shikoku.   Traveling last week we crossed a large span of bridges – all connected together.  It was quite beautiful.
