Branch Conferences

13 May

This was our first time to visit the Kouchi Branch which is located about four hours from Kobe on the island of Shikoku.  We have met some of the members at District Conferences but hadn’t ever visited their branch.  We were happy to be able to attend their branch conference last month.  Here are a few pictures from that day.

A final wave good-bye from some of the members.

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to attend a branch conference in Imabari.  Imabari is about three hours from Kobe on Shikoku.  The members are so wonderful.  We appreciate how good and kind they are to us.  The “shokujikai” or potluck lunch after the meeting was delicious.  One sister made cinnamon rolls and colored Easter eggs in honor of our visit.

This is a picture of the Okada’s – one of our senior couples who serve in this branch.

This sweet sister made this beautiful flower arrangement to decorate the podium for sacrament meeting.

President found out that the man in this picture served in his mission with him forty years ago!

The next week we were in Maizuru for their branch conference.  Maizuru is a couple hours north of Kobe. What a sweet little branch.  Tears came to my eyes as I watched these dear people serve each other.  The branch president’s wife played the keyboard for Sacrament Meeting, taught Sunday School and also taught Relief Society.   And then, served us a delicious lunch after the meetings.  I am grateful for the example of these wonderful saints.

This is Elder Quass (left) who serves in this tiny little branch with a member.  Elder Nukaya is in the next photo.

While President was in meetings I started to do the dishes (no paper goods are ever used).  This man told me that it is tradition in this branch that the sisters prepare the food and the brothers wash the dishes.  He would not allow me to.  Elder Burns (President’s assistant) jumped in to help.

You can see a bit of their meeting “room” in this picture with the Elders.

It was a fun couple of weeks visiting some of the smaller branches in the mission.

So happy to see the branch photos from Maizuru. Elder Anger and I re-opened this area in 1990 and it was a favorite.
